First of all, what is the PTO and what does it do? The PTO of a school is an independent group that does fundraising for the school. The PTO consists of volunteer parents, teachers and school staff. Stay Involved With Your Child’s School

You will be more involved with your child’s life in school. During their younger years, your child will spend quite a lot of time in school. Personally, I volunteer at my kid’s school library. It’s a very easy and fun thing to do that lets me see the kids for an extra hour per week. The kids are always thrilled and excited when they come to the library and see me behind the librarian’s desk.

Secondly, you will be put into a social situation with other parents. The PTO is a great way to be involved not only more with your child but with their parents as well. This is a great way to be able to be in agreement with your friends on different issues concerning your children. It’s a wonderful way to meet new friends as well as see old ones from the previous school year.

Know All About School Happenings

You will be kept more in the loop with things that are going on in your child’s school. The PTO stays up to date with issues going on in the school. You will also have much better communication with the teachers that are teaching your children. This is because teachers generally work hand in hand with the PTO.  For example, I always have an opportunity to chat with my children’s teacher when I am volunteering at the school library. I don’t have to call, email, or wait until a parent-teacher conference. I can mention any questions or concerns that I might have.
