DealDash Packs a Diaper Bag

If you’re a new parent, you probably have no idea what you will truly need when you’re out with baby. Take it from a seasoned mom what you need, and what you should leave at home.

As the mom of three kids (8, 4, and 7 months), I am well versed in baby products of all types. When you see a mom or dad on TV with a diaper bag they have just about everything except the kitchen sink – this makes the bag not only extremely heavy, but also difficult to find the item that you are looking for in a hurry. Here is a list and a quick explanation of what you should be packing in a diaper bag for a local outing. If you are wondering what you should pack for baby for a longer outing, such as a long weekend, just multiply my list by the number of days that you will be away!

  • The Bag – You need a bag that is large, sturdy, has a shoulder strap, and has multiple zippered pockets. There are so many different types and styles of diaper bag that I couldn’t even begin to list them all. I personally carry a bag that was specifically meant to be a diaper bag, but you could easily use something more stylish such as a bag that was meant for laptops as long as it is roomy enough to meet your needs.
  • Diapers – I like to pack enough diapers to be able to change the baby every 2 hours, plus 1 extra diaper for an emergency.
  • Wipes – 1 travel pack of wipes, or if you don’t have one of those, you can just pack single wipes in a ziplock bag. I like to pack 2 wipes per diaper, plus 2 extra wipes in case of an extra messy diaper.
  • Changing Pad – This can be an actual pad, or just a towel the size of a hand towel/kitchen towel.
  • Food – Depending on how old your baby is food might mean milk/formula and bottles, squeezy pouches of food, or food jars and spoons. I personally pack enough milk for my baby to eat 2 ounces per hour (but it’s more likely he will eat 6 ounces every 3 hours). I also like to pack a couple of emergency “nursette” bottles just in case.
  • 2 bibs
  • 2 pacifiers
  • 1 extra outfit
  • 1 soft stuffed toy
  • 1 chewy teething toy
  • Your personal items

That’s it! That’s exactly what I keep in my diaper bag, and it’s served me well. My baby never goes without anything he needs. DealDash has some great diaper bags up for bid, as well as various other bags that would be the perfect size to serve as a diaper bag.
