Night Time

Puppies usually whimper or cry for their mother, and kittens tend to meow or even yowl. It is best to leave the crate or bed next to your bed so you can be there for your new baby. If your dog is crying, you should pet him through the crate and not take him out.  A warm bottle may help a puppy. Just put it under the bedding, and it can bring him comfort. Kittens are a little bit of a different story, they tend to find their own special sleeping spot which might be away from you, or even ON you! 

Routines

Keeping your pet on a routine can help the process of adjusting to your home. Pick a certain time when you will walk him, feed him, and play with him.  He will expect the same thing to happen every day and your puppy or kitten will be comforted knowing that you are there for them. Just like small children, animals crave a routine. It makes them feel safe.

It may take some time, but your puppy or kitten will eventually get used to your home.  Just be patient with your puppy or kitten and let them know that they are safe and loved and your new pet will adjust to your home in no time.
