If you’re traveling to see family this holiday season you might want to bring your pets with you. It can be tricky to travel with pets. Here are some tips and tricks from DealDash to help you have an easier time traveling with pets.

If you are prepared for it, taking a trip with your family pets for holiday visits can be an enjoyable experience. However, it can develop into a headache because of the special treatment your animals require. It will also dictate where you will stay if you are planning on staying in a hotel. If you are staying with family or friends, you’ll have to make certain they are comfy with you bringing your pet along. Read on for some helpful tips from DealDash.

Pets in a Hotel

Planning on staying in a hotel? You might be disappointed, as many places will not let animals (other than service animals) stay in their building. When traveling with pets you need to make your preparations in advance.  Ensure you explore all of the details of prior to booking so you won’t lose your money if your pet is not allowed in the hotel you choose. If you are able to find a hotel that allows pets, be prepared to pay a down payment for damages. If your pet doesn’t damage anything you will typically have your money returned to you.

Air Travel with Pets

Never fear, if you are flying, many airlines can make accommodations for your animals. However, to take a trip in the airplane they will need to be protected in a crate or airline approved carrier. This can be traumatizing for animals that are accustomed to strolling around wherever they please. Many pets will need to fly in the freight location of the airplane. Some airline companies, however, permit small pets to be positioned under the seat throughout the trip. Be sure to check with the airline before booking so you know the pet situation and what you will need to do to travel with your pet.

Most, if not all, will charge you a fee to bring your pet with you. Still, this is an excellent method to guarantee your animal is being well looked after while your traveling for your holiday.  If you are bringing your pet with you, especially if they are traveling in the freight section, you should get a direct flight whenever possible.

Pets and the Weather

Pay very close attention to the weather conditions for your holiday travel. It can be difficult for your family pet if there are weather extremes. If you are traveling to somewhere much colder or warmer than your pet is accustomed to, you might want to re-think traveling with your pet. Extreme temperatures can be dangerous for pets. In this case, they might be better off staying in a boarding kennel.

Other Travel Methods

You will most likely not be able to take your pet with you on the bus lines or the train. This is because of their rigorous standards. The only exemption to this guideline is seeing eye dogs as not permitting them aboard is an infraction under the Americans with Disabilities Act. Because of this, many individuals taking a holiday trip with pets make a decision to take their own car or even rent a car for the trip.

Choosing a Kennel Instead

If traveling with a pet sounds like it is too much work, they can stay in a boarding kennel instead. Be sure that your pet is up-to-date on all of their immunizations. If you choose to board your pet be sure to make the reservations well in advance.
