Kids grow up fast, has your little kid become a tween? Let DealDash give you some suggestions on how to redecorate their bedroom.

A tween is an older child that isn’t quite a teenager yet – they are beTWEEN being a kid and a teen. When we think about redecorating your tween’s bedroom, they are probably tired of the cutesy decorations. However, they aren’t quite old enough to be interested in a more sophisticated style, either. DealDash will help you redecorate the bedroom.

What Are Their Interests?

To begin with, the first thing that you should do before you redecorate your child’s room is to think about their interests. While you are thinking about their interests, though, be cautious not to pick something that they will outgrow in the next year or two. For instance, if they are into football, they will probably still like it in a few years. However, if they are the type of kid to have a different favorite movie/TV show every-other-week, then you probably want to steer clear of fleeting interests.

Ask If They Want to Help Design It

Next, depending on the child, they might want to help you pick their new paint colors at the store, choose new art or pictures for the walls, and pick their own new bedspread. On the other hand, you might have a tween like my 12-year-old son who just “doesn’t care”. Of course, if I picked something completely not his taste, like sparkly unicorns, he would probably care! However, if I stick to things he is interested in, he doesn’t really care about the wall color or if he has striped curtains versus solid. You know your child best, but it’s always nice to have some input on their decorating preferences.

Choosing a paint color can be tricky, especially if you want to keep the room in continuity with the rest of the house. There is a great article on Martha Stewart’s website that can help you choose a paint color that will complement the rest of your home.

Don’t Throw Away/Donate Without Asking First

Being a tween can be a confusing time, with one foot in “Baby Land” and one foot in “Big Kidville”. So while your tween might want to decorate their bedroom, they might not want to get rid of all of their toys and games. Let them choose which things they want to throw away or donate. If they end up putting something in the donation box you think they might miss later you might want to consider saving it for them if you have the extra space. They probably won’t miss that old board game that’s missing pieces, but they might miss a special stuffed animal or action figure.
