DealDash Travels: Washington, D.C.
Everyone should visit our nation’s capital at least once. Here are some things that you should make a point to see while you are there.
Washington, D.C. has been ranked as the #8 best place to visit on the U.S. News and Report website. If you haven’t ever made it to Washington, D.C. you should make it a point to visit on your next vacation.
Washington, D.C. is famous for many things – The White House, Lincoln Memorial, and Washington Monument are things that every American should see at least once. There are also many fun things to make a family vacation enjoyable for the kids as well, such as the National Zoo and the Smithsonian Museum. Surprisingly, all of the Smithsonian attractions as well as the National Zoo have free admission!
Did you know that basketball player Kevin Durant, politician Al Gore, actor Samuel L. Jackson, and your favorite DealDash blogger (me!) were all born in Washington, D.C.?
If you plan on visiting Washington, D.C., you won’t even need to rent a car! The Metro (Washington metropolitan Area Transit Authority), as it’s locally known, is a great way to get around. You are able to fly into Ronald Reagan National Airport (DCA) in Arlington, Virginia and take the Metro into the city to check into your hotel. The cost for the Metro is minimal and ranges from $1.75 to $5.90 per trip, depending on your destination and if you are travelling during “peak” or “off-peak” times, which is an awesome deal compared to a taxi or an Uber.
The best times to visit Washington, D.C. are the spring and the fall to get nice weather as well as slightly better pricing for your hotel than if you were to travel in the summer. And as a bonus, if you travel late in late March or early April you will be able to catch the National Cherry Blossom Festival. This upcoming year, 2017, the National Cherry Blossom Festival will take place from March 20th to April 16th. The cherry blossom trees are currently growing in three National Park Service locations: the Tidal Basin in West Potomac Park, in East Potomac Park (Hains Point), and also on the Washington Monument grounds.
