DealDash Organizes in January

DealDash

It’s official! The holidays are over and it’s time to clean up. Here are some cleaning suggestions from DealDash.

Everyone knows about spring cleaning, but a thorough cleaning in January just might be even more important. Your house is cluttered with old toys, new gifts, decorations, and more food than you can handle. Read these ideas from DealDash and then get started.

Put Away the Tree and Decorations

Start your new year by taking down the decorations from Christmas and trying to find their place. It’s amazing how much more space you’ll have when the decorations are put away. Next, look at downsizing a bit. You can throw away those decorations that are worn out.

Also, you should look at getting rid of some of your children’s toys, and you should consider getting rid of some of your own toys as well. We all have those clothes, toys, or knickknacks that have seen better days. Consider donating the older stuff now that you have something new. I like to use the “1 in 1 out” rule at my house, and it can be a bit overwhelming with 3 kids and a giant pile of new toys and clothing.

Solutions for Cords and Cables

Consider having a set box for certain things. In our house, we have a box of a/v cords that we keep on hand. There may more than we need, but you never know when the cable you’re using will short out. Whether it’s your excess wrapping supplies, cords, or batteries, you can find a space to save them for the future without cluttering up the house. You can also pick a drawer in the kitchen, get a cutlery separator for it, and store your cords in the different sections.

Shampoo the Carpets and Clean the Vents

As we’ve been hosting Christmas over the years, we’ve found that January is the perfect time to shampoo the carpets. We opted to buy a shampooer, but you may prefer to just rent one. Either way, there’s something almost therapeutic about watching the dirt slowly disappear from your carpet. As a result, the sense of pride and accomplishment as you see your carpet return back to its original color is amazing.

Also, if you’re willing to do the deep cleaning, consider your vents and filters. It’s not something that most people think about, but your air filters typically last about 3 months. The New Year is a good time to double-check how well your filters are holding up. While you’re at it, consider the filters in your fridge and checking the batteries in your smoke detector.
