Eating healthy all the time is not always sustainable, there are always going to be days that you don’t have time to make a healthy dinner. However, if you can aim to eat as healthy as possible for six days out of the week you will be doing better than most people! Read on for some tips, tricks, and ideas for healthy eating, from DealDash.

1. Organize Food Shopping Trips

It all starts with a good purchase, because what we have at home is what we finally end up eating. For this reason, it is essential to make an organized shopping trip to the grocery store. We need to plan what our meals and limit ourselves to a list. Also, it’s important to not go shopping hungry but better after having eaten a meal. In addition, it’s important to buy more fresh food . Not only are they more delicious, but they are also rich in vitamins and minerals.

2. Cooking more at home

In addition to shopping, cooking is key if we want to eat healthier. Our goal is to achieve a real change of habits, so eating healthy will come more naturally to us. It’s important to learn how to make simple preparations such as fresh salads, or sautéed vegetables with a side of lean protein. Soon we will realize how much we can change our diet for the better by simply cooking at home.

3. Control portions

In a restaurant or fast food place, portions have been increasing dramatically over time. They are now considered to be quite unhealthy, even if you think that you are making a healthy choice of a salad or soup. This is due to the large portions that they serve. Most people tend to eat everything we are served since many of us grew up being encouraged to finish our meal and be a member of the “Clean Plate Club”.

However, you can easily remedy this by asking the waiter or waitress to box up half of your food “to go” before they even bring out your meal. Also, not eating out of the container when you get take-out, avoiding distractions, and other tricks can be very useful when it comes to controlling the portions.

4. Choose water as your drink

Liquids do not produce the same satiety as solids. So if we choose drinks with calories such as sweet tea, soft drinks, or juices, we can be adding extra calories without realizing it. Also, being well hydrated can promote health as well. If we replace caloric drinks with water it will have a noticeable change in your diet. Therefore, a good habit to incorporate into your diet is to drink water on a regular basis. Leave the juices and sodas only for special moments and occasions.
