Staying focused is a key part of being able to do schoolwork at home effectively. Taking some time to practice focusing can be a helpful exercise for the mind. It’s very important for a child to be able to concentrate if you want them to be successful when they study. Here are some suggestions from DealDash.

Tips for Concentration and Focus at Home

• Set up a dedicated study area. The study area must be quiet and without distractions such as younger siblings, TV, or smartphones. This is especially important for an older child who has their own phone and has frequent notifications and texts.
  
• Have a regular schedule. Having a regular schedule doesn’t mean that you have to keep “school hours”, though. Personally, I am enjoying not having to get up so early in the morning. We get up and have breakfast, then start schoolwork around 10AM. We take a short lunch break, and then do schoolwork until 2PM, followed by independent reading. Following this is an “elective” such as sewing, cooking, or art.
• Make sure your child is getting between 8 and 9 hours of sleep each night. Your child’s concentration won’t be at it’s best if they are tired.
• Take short breaks. I like to let the kids take a quick 5-minute break whenever they are starting to get a little antsy. A quick break can renew their concentration, especially if they use the time to grab a healthy snack such as a fruit cup or banana.
