DealDash Makes: A Fairy Garden
The number one rule about making a fairy garden is…There are no rules! Yes, you can feel free to make your fairy garden exactly as you would like it to look.
Fairy gardens can be as simple or intricate as you would like them to look. As I said, there are no rules, so let your creative side shine. Here are some simple directions that you can use to get started in making your fairy garden. Feel free to substitute any of the materials or techniques that I mention and enjoy your own personalized fairy garden.
- The Vessel – Fairy gardens can be created in pretty much any sort of container including a regular flower-pot, a large bowl, a sand bucket, or even an aquarium! Just make sure that there are drainage holes. Remember the larger the surface area the more room you will have to create your fairy garden landscape.
- Real Estate – Where you place your fairy garden totally depends on the plants that you plan on including inside. You can put your fairy garden inside or out, but be mindful that it should be sheltered from the worst weather, yet still be able to have access to the sunlight to grow.
- Creating your world – You can put a mishmash of tiny objects in your fairy garden if you like, but most people choose to focus on a theme such as a country garden, a tea party, an enchanted forest, or even a spooky forest!
- Let’s get planting – Visit your local nursery/gardening center to choose your new plants. Please be mindful of what grows well in your area and climate. It’s very important to choose plants which have the same growing requirements. This will also help you choose where you place your fairy garden at home. Choose a few different plants that you love. If you have a certain idea of how you would like your fairy garden to end up looking in the end, then go ahead and make a rough sketch before you go to the gardening center, and ask a nursery associate to help make your vision become a reality.
- After you have purchased your plants and accessories then plant your new little world according to the sketch that you made previously. If you don’t like how the fairy garden looks then move around your little fairy accessories, get different ones, or even make your own!
- Place your new fairy garden in its new home and delight in its adorableness.
Making a fairy garden can be a wonderful experience to share with your children. Let them have a little bit of input on the fairy garden such as what color plants they would like and what sorts of accessories they would like to put in the garden. The more involved they are in the process or making the fairy garden they are, the more likely they are to remember to water it!
