DealDash

Carving a pumpkin is a favorite fall activity. If you want to have an awesome pumpkin, you’ll need to plan ahead. Read on for some ideas from DealDash.

The fall is almost here, and it is time to do some fall activities. Carving pumpkins has been a tradition for many years. During Halloween, most people like to show off their art skills by carving pumpkins into a variety of faces and shapes. Learning how to carve pumpkins may seem hard, but here are suggestions that can help you carve a pumpkin, from DealDash.

Choose the Right Pumpkin

Finding the right pumpkin is one of the first things you need to do. You may think that you can pick any pumpkin, but that is not the case. When you are choosing a pumpkin for carving, you have to make sure that the pumpkin has no bruises, a flat bottom, and that it does not roll when you carve it.

Create Your Design on Paper Before You Carve Your Pumpkin

Creating your design on paper can help you make the perfect jack-o-lantern face. Simply use it as a pattern and trace the sketch. Just tape your sketch on the front of the pumpkin and poke holes or use a pencil along the lines that you want to carve the pumpkin. You can also get a pumpkin carving kit to save time.

Keep Your Pumpkin Nice and Fresh

It is recommended to spread petroleum jelly on the edges that you cut to keep the moisture within your pumpkin. If your pumpkin goes bad a few days later, you can soak it in cold water to revive it. When your pumpkin is fresh, you won’t have to worry about your design withering.

Cook the Pumpkin Seeds

Don’t waste the inside of your pumpkin! While you are carving your jack-o-lantern, save the seeds in a bowl. All you need to make roasted pumpkin seeds (other than the seeds!) is:

  • ½ teaspoon Lawry’s Seasoned Salt
  • ½ tablespoon olive oil
  • Dash of salt

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
  2. Soak the clean seeds in a bowl full of water for 30 minutes minimum, up to 24 hours in the fridge. Drain the seeds, throw away the water.
  3. Fill a pot with water and a dash of salt. Boil water, and place seeds into the boiling water for 10 minutes.
  4. Turn off the heat and drain the seeds and place back into your empty bowl. Toss seeds with olive oil. Lay the seeds in a thin layer on a cookie sheet. Sprinkle with Lawry’s Seasoned Salt. Place in oven and turn the seeds over every 10 minutes, do not let them burn. Seeds are done in around 40 minutes or when they become firmer and are no longer soft.
