DealDash Presents: Surprising Household Cleaners

DealDash cleaners

Cleaning your house doesn’t have to equal expensive cleaning products. DealDash takes a peek at things around the home that you can use to clean.

Did you know that you can solve your cleaning issues with everyday things that you can find in your kitchen? It’s surprising but true! You won’t believe that such simple products could do so many tough cleaning jobs.

Pepper

Did you know that soap residue can cause the colors on your favorite clothing to look faded? Add a teaspoon of black pepper to the wash cycle (along with cold water detergent) the next time you’re doing a load of colored clothing. Be sure to wash on cold.

How it works: The pepper exfoliates the soap residue that causes clothing to fade. The pepper washes away with the rinse cycle, just as if you had spilled pepper on your clothing and washed it.

Milk

Oops! You forgot to put the cap on your pen, and the ink ended up staining your shirt pocket. Don’t worry!

Pour some milk on the spot and let your shirt on the edge of your bathtub for 1 hour to 24 hours (depending on how severe the ink spot) and everything will be back to normal! Amazing, isn’t it?

Mayonnaise

Where does your child like to draw? Hopefully, it’s on paper. But as the mom of 3 little ones, I know that they’re just as likely to be drawing on the walls and furniture. Put some mayonnaise on the “masterpiece” and let it like that for 10 minutes. Gently rub and wash with a towel. The furniture and walls should be like brand new.

However, please test this in a very small and inconspicuous area. This could possibly cause more harm than good if you have any special finishes on your walls or special fabric on your furniture.

Garlic

Ouch! You were handling something with wooden parts, and there is a sliver in your finger? Fear splinters no more! Rub the spot with some garlic and the splinter will come out immediately.

Sugar

Don’t waste money on sophisticated bug sprays, but rather prepare your best weapon against mosquitos at home. Here’s how:

  1. Mix one cup of milk with five spoons of sugar and a spoon of black pepper
  2. boil the mixture for 10 minutes.
  3. Let it cool down and pour it in small containers that you will put in the buggy places.

Carbonated Water

Have you ever spilled red wine on your carpet? Oh, how I wish I knew about this magic trick when I did this myself years back!

First, don’t panic. Pour some carbonated water on the spot and let it dry. The wine spot will miraculously disappear!

Bay Leaf

Did you know that bay leaves are the worst enemies of insects? Put some in your garden and keep your plants insect-proofed.

Banana

Before you throw the banana peel into the compost bin or garbage, take those long strips and use the inside part to rub your cutlery, leather shoes, and leather sofa and then wipe them with a soft cloth. Voila! Shiny!

Vinegar

Oh, books could be filled with the many uses of this magic liquid.  The claims are well deserved.  Did you know that vinegar can be used to clean the spots on the tea kettle or pots and pans? How?

Water + Vinegar + Boil. Rinse well and look how clean your kettle or pots and pans are now.
