DealDash Kids: Help Your Kids Enjoy Reading

As a kid, I loved to read. This love doesn’t come naturally to all kids, though. Here are some pointers from DealDash to help your kids learn how to enjoy reading.

I was an only child when I was a kid, so I had plenty of lonely times that I filled with books. When I was young, I was a very early reader. I never struggled with it, so that is probably why I loved it! However, reading doesn’t come easy to all kids, my oldest being one of them. Here are some tips that I have used with him to help him enjoy reading.

Let Them Read Anything They Want (Within Reason)

When kids are in school they are always told exactly what to read. Now that we are all teaching at home there is more freedom for kids to choose exactly what they want to read. My oldest isn’t fond of typical novels, he likes graphic novels, comic books, and non-fiction books such as World Record books. These aren’t things that they are allowed to read for school book reports, but since the kids currently only have a goal for “minutes read” this isn’t a problem.

Encourage Them to Read to a Pet or Sibling

Another way that you can help your kids enjoy reading is to ask them to read to a pet or a little brother or sister. This works best if the younger sibling doesn’t know how to read yet, so they don’t point out any mistakes – and I’m assuming your pets don’t know how to read, either! Ever since the kids have been out of school my oldest has been reading to my youngest after dinner each night. This helps your reader feel more confident because the younger child will presumably pick a book that is an easier level than the reader uses for school.

Organize the Books in a Nice Way With Help From DealDash
