DealDash Kids: Planning a Thanksgiving Trip?
If you’re planning on taking your kids on a road trip to see family this Thanksgiving you need to read this blog. DealDash is here to make your life easier.
Planning a holiday road trip with your kids can be exciting and stressful all at the same time. You want everyone to have fun not only while at your family destination but while in the car too. Here are some things to remember when you want to plan a successful holiday road trip, from DealDash.
Solo and Group Activities
You want to plan activities in the car that you can do together as well as ones that you can do on your own. For instance, you can play guessing games while on the way to your destination. You can also bring things like coloring books and music players with headphones so your kids can keep themselves occupied while during times where you need to really concentrate while driving. If your iPad (or other tablet) only works with WIFI, then be sure to download some books and games that don’t need WIFI for your trip.
Don’t Forget the Snacks
Snacks are another thing that you need to keep into consideration when you are looking to plan a great road trip. Nothing would be worse than hungry kids and nowhere to stop for miles. You need to plan to bring kid-friendly snacks that will keep them satisfied while you are on your way to your destination.
Another fun thing that I like to do with my kids when we are on a road trip is to do “car picnics”. I bring along some snacks and drinks, but instead of eating them as we go down the road we find a place to stop, I open up the hatch of my SUV, and we sit in the back and snack in the fresh air. This doesn’t work in winter, of course, but if the weather stays nice for the next few weeks then this will definitely be something we do on our way to see family for Thanksgiving.
Don’t Lose Patience
You must also remember to be patient while you are on your road trip. Kids of all ages can become restless while in the car. Thus, plan for a few pit stops along the way so that everyone can stretch their legs. That way everyone will be a whole lot happier during the trip.
Maybe the Kids Want to See the Sights
You should also take into account suggestions from your kids about where you should go and what you should see on the way. Getting your kids involved will really get them excited about going on the holiday road trip. They will have much more fun if their thoughts and suggestions are heard.
For example, there are lots of fun shops on the way to Grandma’s house that my kids like to visit. If we can leave early enough and make good time on the road I don’t mind stopping for a little while so the kids can shop. It makes them much better riding companions on the way if they know they have to behave so I will stop so they can do a little shopping.
