DealDash Sorts Legos

“Ouch!!” That’s what I say at any given time when I attempt to walk across my kid’s playroom. Legos. Legos everywhere.

When I was a kid way back in the “dark ages” of the 1980s, most kids had a container of Legos consisting of bricks, platforms, and maybe if you were lucky you might have a few doors or windows. Kids today have all of that and 1,000 times more. There are Lego sets for just about anything – Disney princesses, Minecraft, The Simpsons, Ghostbusters…You name a theme and there is probably a Lego set that goes along with it. That’s great for kids (and the adults that love Legos), but what about the poor frazzled mom that ends up cleaning up all of the Legos so her robotic vacuum cleaner doesn’t accidentally eat them and choke?

Organization. Say it with me, “Organization.” That’s exactly what you need if your house is overrun with Legos. Sometimes it can be so overwhelming that you don’t even know where to start. Let me help you with that.

You’re going to need containers. The first thing that you should do is decide how many different categories of Lego pieces you would like to sort your collection into. How specific do you want to be? For me, personally, I like to have a Minifigures bin, a plain bricks bin, an “odds and ends” bin, and bins for each complete set. How you would like to categorize your Legos is up to you; for me, less categories is easier.

There is an amazing tool for Lego sorting that you can purchase called the BOX4BLOXwhich sorts the LEGO through a series of trays that have different sized grids in the bottom. After you have sorted them by size, you could even sort by color if you want to be extremely thorough.

If you don’t like the idea of putting each category into bigger bins, how about getting creative with your storage options? You could get a container that has multiple drawers that are normally used for hardware or auto parts and place all of your little pieces  snugly in its compartments.
