This story will be read by you every night before bed, several nights in a row. Yes, it might become annoying and exasperating for an adult, but you have to do it.
Kids like the feeling of power and anticipation they have when they know what is going to come next in the story. While they try to memorize the story, word for word, your child develops his cognitive skills. He will also love the feeling that the world he is living in is the same day-after-day and he knows what to expect. So remember: Don’t skip any pages!
Repetition is Good for Them
Psychologists discovered that those children who ask for the same story, again and again, learn more words and have a better vocabulary than those who want a new story every time. It’s simple to understand why – these stories have new, unknown words, which are assimilated by children and they learn how to use them proficiently. They will be able to give the definition of the word after so many repetitions of the story. This is why repetition is so important to a child’s growing brain.
Yes, new stories are fun and entertaining but keep in mind that if you are going to repeat a story for several nights to your child, he will most likely learn new words that he didn’t know before. Be patient and make your child happy by respecting his wishes for the same story night after night.
