Clear Out the Clutter

Start by cleaning out the clutter. You can’t organize a cabinet that is still in shambles. Get rid of the spices that you can’t identify. If you have any spices that are opened and not in a normal plastic bottle, you should consider using baggies. I’ve found that labeling a baggie with a date and name of the spice is incredibly helpful. It may be good to list the serving size as well.

Use Storage to Help

Use Tupperware containers to make everything neat again. It’s also helpful to use Tupperware as a bit of a box for your spices or packets of mixes. It’s similar to the idea we suggested to keep a playroom neat. By having a place for everything, you know that you’ll be able to find it when you’re looking.
Buy a spice rack. These come in many varieties. If you have the space for a true spice rack that can hang, it’s worth its weight in gold. If you don’t have that kind of space, consider buying a spice rack that is tiered so that the spices are at different levels. It makes finding the right spice much easier.
Finally, you may want to consider getting small magnetic jars. You can paint the lid or side with chalkboard paint so that you can label the jar. Having something with a little character can also act as a decoration piece in your kitchen. Using a jar also looks a little nicer than plastic bags.
