DealDash Kids: Mom’s Store is Open for Business!
Not being able to go out and look around and shop can be hard on kids, too. Here are some tips to help, from DealDash.
I don’t know about your kids, but 2 out of 3 of mine are big fans of browsing and shopping at the store. Walking around the mall is one of their favorite activities. However, during these days of social distancing, it’s just not a good idea. This is why I opened “Mom’s Store” at home for the kids. Read on for some tips on setting up your own little shop at home for your kids, from DealDash.
What IS Mom’s Store, Anyway?
Personally, I love to shop during sales and on the clearance racks and save the items for later. These are items that I keep in a box in the closet whenever I need a quick present for one of my own kids, for a birthday party with little notice, or any other holiday. I mostly have kid’s items, but I like to keep a few teen and adult items on hand, too, such as lotion sets or pretty scarves. You never know when you might need a spur-of-the-moment gift.
Now that I have had all of this extra time at home, I have moved all of the kid’s items into their own separate toy chest. I have also gone around the house and added new things that I have on hand such as craft supplies, new clothing that I hadn’t given them yet, stickers, and other small things. This is the “stock” at Mom’s Store. The kids can shop each Saturday using the tally marks that they earn during the week.
How Do the Kids Earn Tally Marks?
All three of my kids, even the preschooler, are having school online now. Each day that they do their schoolwork without complaining, or if one of the older ones helps the baby, they get a tally mark on my whiteboard. At the end of the week we count up the tally marks, and this is the currency at Mom’s Store.
There are other ways to earn tally marks such as doing extra chores in addition to their typical ones, babysitting the little one in the morning so Mom can get an extra hour of sleep, and making lunch for their siblings. Additionally, if one of them gets “caught” doing something extra nice, that can earn a tally mark as well. This mostly applies to the little one in our case, since he is too small to do most of the other things.
